Meet the heart behind the labor lounge
Hey there! I'm Lorvena, an experienced labor and delivery nurse with two incredible years of firsthand experience. But let's start at the beginning - I was born in the vibrant heart of Haiti and found my way to the sunny shores of Florida when I was just a wide-eyed five-year-old dreamer.
From my earliest memories, I had a calling - I wanted to take care of people. But, it was my journey through nursing school and an unforgettable obstetric rotation that revealed the path to my true passion.
Then, a two-month mission trip to Liberia, Africa, became the turning point. There, in the midst of untouched nature, I discovered my deep love for women's health, expectant mothers, and the incredible journey of giving birth. I witnessed it all - the beauty, the mess, and the profound life-changing moments.
Returning to Florida, I eagerly embraced my nursing career in labor and delivery. The excitement was palpable, knowing that I could be a part of modern medicine and provide essential resources to my patients. Yet, it was also an awakening.
I’ve noticed gaps in education, informed consent, and autonomy for women and families in this field. I’ve witnessed the consequences of obstetrical violence and the slippery slope of interventions. I especially witnessed these things in low-income, disadvantaged communities. It shook me to my core.
This dissonance became the driving force behind "The Labor Lounge" and my journey to become a childbirth educator. I'm currently in training with the esteemed Lamaze Childbirth Educator program while continuing to practice as an L&D nurse.
My mission is unwavering - to empower as many women and families as I can with the knowledge they need to shape their own unique birth experiences. Whether it’s a birth with interventions or without, with an epidural or au naturel, I believe in empowering women to make these choices confidently.
I wholeheartedly embrace the core principles of Lamaze - the belief that every woman possesses the innate capability to give birth and that our bodies are divinely designed for this beautiful and remarkable journey.
Welcome to "The Labor Lounge." Together, let's embark on a journey to create a childbirth experience that's as extraordinary as it is empowering.
